Zio Mauro is a staple in Maccarese! It started as a simple tavern that then evolved into a cafeteria. Open every day for lunch, it has the classic cafeteria format… you go in with a tray, get a drink from the various fridges, and then go to order the dishes. There is a lot of variety and the menu, posted on a blackboard outside, changes almost every day, but it's mostly Roman food… we opted for meatballs in sauce and Roman-style tripe! Obviously followed by a good tiramisu! What can I say, the food is simple, the prices are very reasonable, and the uncle and aunt are so friendly! An added bonus… when you pay, they offer you a coffee
